What is Animal Assisted Therapy?
Animal-assisted therapy improves patients’ mental, physical, social and emotional functioning with the aid of animals. Depending on the needs of the patient, many different animals can be used in therapy, including horses, dogs, and other animals.
Erin has always been a strong believer in the connection between animals and humans. As such, she knows that this connection can be used in the therapeutic setting. Erin incorporates canine assisted therapy with Koda, her twelve year old therapy dog, in to regular sessions with adolescents in an effort to help build rapport and motivate change. In addition, Snowflake, a three year old chihuahua mix, recently joined the therapy team as well. In addition, Erin works with Spring Reins of Hope and Spring Reins of Life to provide Equine Assisted Psychotherapy to clients that may be "stuck"' in therapy and need a more intensive treatment approach.
